Mandate of KVK
- The mandate of KVK is “Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity Development (TADACD)”.
- To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged for the KVK.
- On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
- Frontline demonstrations to establish the production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields
- Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies
- To work as a Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sectors in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
- Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers.
Core objectives:
- 1. Survey and Resource Inventory: Conduct surveys to assess the agricultural landscape and identify the specific training needs of farmers.
- Training Courses: Plan and conduct both short and long-term training programs that address the needs of farmers, prioritizing marginalized and poor communities.
- 3. Campus Farms and Demonstration Units: Maintain on-campus farming facilities to offer hands-on training and demonstrate the latest agricultural practices.
- 4. General Education: Impart basic education to rural illiterates and school dropouts to develop them as skilled farmers and responsible citizens.
- 5. Home Making and Nutrition Education: Offer training to rural communities in areas like homemaking and nutrition to improve rural livelihoods.
- 6. Collaborating with ICAR Programs: Implement schemes from ICAR and related organizations to enhance the training and outreach programs.
- This approach integrates agricultural training with broader rural development, ensuring the holistic improvement of the rural economy and community well-being.
- In addition, KVK is involved in producing quality technological products and making them available to farmers, organising frontline extension activities, identifying and documenting selected farm innovations and converging with ongoing schemes and programmes within the mandate of KVK.
- Development of 10-12 IFS models within the district.
- Seed production of important crops through participatory seed production mode.
- Introduction of improved/HYV/Breed (livestock & fisheries).
- Promotion and collaboration with FPOs, SHGs and Farmers Club.
- Creating more awareness about Natural Farming.
- Promotion of local fish species for nutritional security and income generation.
- Establishment of linkages for postharvest value addition of underutilised crops.
- Development of Beekeeping units for income generation.
